About

The East Midlands Poetry Library aims to promote and encourage engagement with the poetry of the region.

The library is also building a catalogue of books by East Midlands poets and encouraging people to add relevant titles to the list.

The library will have a physical and an online presence.

What interested individuals, groups and organisations can do
  • Decide how they would like to support the library
  • Add titles to the catalogue
  • Encourage others to add titles to the catalogue
  • Spread the word about the catalogue
  • Get some of the books on the catalogue onto reading lists and into libraries
  • Put together or support activities, events, festivals, workshops, lessons and doctoral studentship programmes looking at aspects related to regional poets and their work
  • Suggest ways the library and activities associated with the library could be funded
Why the East Midlands matters

The East Midlands consists of the counties: Derbysire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland; the major urban centres, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Mansfield, Northampton, and Nottingham; the towns, Boston, Chesterfield, Corby, Grantham, Hinckley, Kettering, Loughborough, Newark-on-Trent, Skegness, Wellingborough, and more.

The region has rich and diverse literatures; an estimated population of 4.8 million and is the 8th most populous region in the UK; 18 further education colleges, 9 universities, and around 180,000 students in secondary schools; and a very large potential audience the poetry library could reach.
